| "let's face it: love's an intimidating subject that's been done and overdone, trivialised and dramatised to the point of mass delusion about what it is and isn't. this is what i know for sure... the chance to love and be loved exists no matter where you are. most of us can't see it because we have our own preconceived ideas about what it is (it's supposed to knock you off your feet and make you swoon) and how it should appear (in a tall, slim, witty, charming package). so if love doesn't show up wrapped in our personal fantasy, we fail to recognise it. i've seen so many women (and been one myself) dazed by the idea of romance, believing they're not complete unless they find someone to make their lives whole. when you think about it, isn't that a crazy notion? you, alone, make a whole person. and if you feel incomplete, you alone must fill yourself with love in all your empty, shattered spaces. ralph waldo emerson said, "nothing can bring you peace but yourself." - oprah |

| here's food for thought.
"cheating on your partner? rorting the boss? screwing the tax office? screwing someone from the tax office? or do you just have an urge to kill someone?
to get on in life, we push things down. everyday existence in 'civilised' society is a parade of willingly forced smiles and voluntary white lies. we are shaped by contradictions and insecurities, nature and nurture. our personal histories and social backgrounds form a series of layers and these unwieldy factors bump inside us all the time, often bruising our delicate emotional ecologies.
and under our lives are, well, our lives. the unspoken desires, the guilty secrets of human frailty, the wonderful private eccentricities. the naked selves we hardly show, and forget to know. these folded shrouds of our selves spill into our art, our madness, our everyday phobias, hang-ups and inexplicable personal reactions." |
